A lot of skepticism comes with the reported diplomatic breakthrough in Geneva under which Ukraine and Russia pledged to back down from the march to war. The problem is that Ukrainians have heard the Russians talk about peace while conducting war. Moreover, Russian President Vladimir Putin admitted publicly on April 17 that he doesn't respect Ukraine's sovereignty and thinks not only Crimea, but much of southeast Ukraine belongs in Russia.
