Poroshenko wins in landslide in 2014
Five years later, Petro Poroshenko would lose in a landslide to Volodymyr Zelensky after voters grew frustrated over his obstruction of anti-corruption measures and lack of progress in Russia's war.
Kyiv Post chief editor Brian Bonner introduced the May 23, 2014, issue this way:
Two big stories this week: The May 25 presidential election in which billionaire Petro Poroshenko is favored to win. Also, more tragedy in Donetsk Oblast as 16 Ukrainian soldiers are killed in fighting with the Kremlin-backed terrorists. There is other news, but it seems to pale in comparison. Best wishes for a strong Ukraine. Thanks, everyone from all of us at the Kyiv Post.
