The importance of Poland to Ukraine
The then-independent Kyiv Post focused on Ukraine's supportive neighbor, despite deep historic disputes, in its edition 6 years ago. Also, Ukraine prepares for a Russian invasion from the Azov Sea.
Kyiv Post chief editor Brian Bonner summarizes the Oct. 19, 2018, edition, which can be read here in PDF format:
It's the 23rd-anniversary issue of the Kyiv Post, and it's great to be alive, thanks to the wonderful support of our readers, advertisers, subscribers, and owner Adnan Kivan.
In this edition:
* "World in Ukraine" goes to Poland for an in-depth look at relations with Ukraine's neighbor to the west. However, it's a close friendship marred by awful violence in the past. We have a round-up of the essential stories, including an interview with Polish Ambassador Jan Pieklo.
* We analyze the pending language law's unintended consequences. While seeking to promote the Ukrainian language, it could force independent news mediaβincluding the Kyiv Postβout of business by requiring identical versions in the Ukrainian language online and in print.
* We're at the war front with Ukrainian soldiers training for a possible Russian landing from the Azov Sea.
* More horrific details about the gunman who committed suicide after killing at least 20 people and wounding 35 at a school in the Russian-occupied Crimean city of Kerch.
* Our Business Focus is Corporate Social Responsibility, and we're here to report that it is alive and well.
* Much more in lifestyle & entertainment sections.
Thanks for all your hearty congratulations! It's good to be alive at 23...and we're hoping for many more years of serving as Ukraine's Global Voice in the English language.
