When Berdyansk was still free
The Azov Sea port city fell to Russia in the early days of the full-scale invasion in 2022.
This is Kyiv Post chief editor Brian Bonnerβs summary of the Jan. 19, 2018, edition, which can be read here in PDF format:
It's a wrap for our 3rd edition of the young New Year. Top story -- the population of Berdyansk, an Azov Sea port city, has swelled by 10 percent - to about 125,000 as refugees from Russia's war in the Donbas seek refuge in the city.
There are more damning allegations against billionaire Ihor Kolomoisky, who allegedly looted $5.5 billion from PrivatBank and stuck taxpayers with the tab. This time, in a lawsuit, businessman Vadim Shulman accuses the oligarch of owing him $500 million and explains the PrivatBank insider lending -- embezzlement schemes. Kolomoisky, wherever he is, couldn't be reached for comment.
We've got much more including our regular features. Kyiv Post CEO Luc Chenier will be traveling to the World Economic Forum in Davos, Switzerland later in January to film Ukraine House, an exhibit by Ukrainian leaders to showcase investment opportunities in Ukraine at the annual event that attracts the global elite.
Best wishes from all of us at the Kyiv Post.
