Absolutely correct. Expect the unexpected and you will not be surprised. The problem is waiting for the Russian population to react against Putinβ¦. They have been brainwashed for sooooo long. So many years. The have no idea what the reality is. But, fingers crossed for something very soon in the new year.
Since before he invaded Ukraine but especially after it, he has worked to control the flow of information to the Russian people in Muscovy in particular and to a large degree throughout the empire. I see reflections of Putin's actions in Trump (e.g. his lawsuit against the Des Moines Register because they printed information that Trump doesn't like), and that's scary as it could put us squarely on the road to a fascist, oligarchic dictatorship.
Putin cracked down severely on all media with the effect that the great majority of Russians can only watch Putin-approved television news, and read Putin-approved government newspapers, whether in hard copy or online, all in a successful effort to manipulate and control what Russians and those in the greater empire believe what the government tells them. There is no free, fact-based news media in the Russian Empire.
Thus we can assume that it's still the case that Russians are unaware of the significant losses of military hardware and personnel in the war, and have the view that the "Nazi" government of Ukraine is on its last legs and is about to fall. In order to minimize the human effects of the war and mold public perceptions, conscription of new soldiers is primarily occurring outside the Moscow-St. Petersburg nexus, hence the gigantic losses of conscripts has largely been limited to the rest of the Federation.
Those in Russia and the empire, if they have personal internet servers that can access the few factual news sources on Telegram and on the Russian news outlet in exile, Meduza, now largely resident in Latvia. Meduza (https://meduza.io/en) consists of mostly Russian journalists who escaped Putin's iron glove and who provide factual information about Russia in and out of Ukraine on the internet (donations to Meduza are tax-free in the United States).
When 'news' is strictly controlled, people don't have access to factual news and instead live in an Orwellian thought-controlled environment. I could go on, and on and on, but you get the idea.
