Of course it’s in Ukraine’s interest to keep Trump (Putin’s puppet) out of OUR White House. It’s better for NATO. It’s better for Americans and it’s better for the world as a whole.
I respectfully disagree on a few points. But not so much the outcome.
1. The dominant wing of the Republican party is FULLY invested in Ukraine. The vocal wing might not be. Let's not confuse volume and repetition for voting numbers.
2. Trump won't/can't govern alone. It requires a cabinet. And there are not enough anti-Ukraine generals to fill a phone booth. There aren't enough qualified public servants to fill a Prius. Much less the CIA, Joint Chiefs, DHS, State, etc.
3. If Harris continues the Jake Sullivan school of escalation management... how is this good for Ukraine going into the 4th, 5th years of the war?
Let me illustrate point 3.
Your house is on fire (Ukraine). Your fire department (USA) knows you will need 2000 liters of water to save your house if it arrives in the next hour. The fire department arrives after 2 hours with 1500 liters of water. AND... the fire department goes around telling the world that they will support you as long as it takes and lists all the water and resources it gave you as proof of its commitment. Your house burns to the ground. Despite all the "commitments."
If the Harris plan is 4-8 more years of Jake Sullivan "help"... Ukraine can't afford it.
Does this mean that Trump is a better choice than Harris on Ukraine? I can't answer that with the data available. Nor can anyone else.
Especially consider the change in Trump's rhetoric in the past year. Both Trump and Harris are politicians. They will do what gets them elected and keeps them in power. Trump can change his stance or keep it the same. Harris hasn't verbalized her stance so we assume more of the same (slow death for Ukraine) or worse, or better. We just don't know.
Good points, all. Trump is in mid stages dementia. Most of the time, he doesn’t understand the ramifications of his babbling lies. He doesn’t care about anyone but himself; he doesn’t care about all the dead civilians in Gaza, the dead soldiers in Ukraine. Harris has not divulged her opinion on the war efforts because she is stuck at the moment as both VP and candidate for president. Ukraine has moved into Russia in Kursk; they know they cannot wait. Zelenskyy has been wise to solicit support in a variety of countries and move on to try to regain control of the war. We need to give him all he needs if he doesn’t have it. To bring that war to an end. Of course, Putin will be pissed 😤 & there is the risk of a larger conflict. As for Israel/Gaza you did not mention but Biden is theoretically working on a ceasefire, hostage release if any remain alive which I consider a very long shot indeed. Any two state solution is dead on arrival. While it makes sense to everyone else, BiBi will NEVER AGREE. This part of the world has been fighting over that same piece of rubble for how many hundreds of years because it was promised to one group in the Bible? Well, it’s all rubble now and will not be habitable for decades or more. There is no point in continuing. Hamas just goes into more tunnels; they had been planning this forever. At present it is a humanitarian nightmare with all manner of disease now killing starving near corpses of former civilians whatever ethnicity. The bigger problem for us in the USA is the number of Jews in governance, Arabs and Muslims too, all of which we must agree with in whatever solution ultimately presents itself. Please do not assume I am antisemite or racist of any kind; I am not and I cannot imagine their pain for families left in that space that is a burned out shell of what once was a homeland to many. I do not envy Kamala taking on that mantle to come. Biden BELIEVES he has a workable solution and he is the elder experienced statesman. Perhaps with just a little luck, he can make a deal of some kind. But these issues go back to the Ottoman Empire. How can we realistically fix anything? Especially when the Bible is involved. BiBi will lose his party and his governance at some point and this will stall out for a while again. But I see no solution on the horizon EVER with these ethnic groups so opposed to one another. I am optimistic that Zelenskyy will have his sovereign Ukraine 🇺🇦 and we will all celebrate that. But after so much death, starvation, disease in the Mideast, I cannot imagine any positive outcome other than walking away by those who live there to live out their lives in a place that is at least habitable for the present.
