Trump is doing his worst to normalize Putin’s terror bombing of Ukraine
Sunday saw yet another mass bombing in Ukraine; 34 killed. The world must never forget that, when asked about the Russian terror, Trump answered: Putin is only doing “what anybody else would do.”
(Sumy, Sunday morning, after a Russian bomb attack.)
BY MICHAEL ANDERSEN
Putin is a mass murderer. But U.S. President Donald Trump also has blood on his hands.
For the umpteenth week in a row, I am forced to post this – because again, this week has seen a Russian bomb attack on a Ukrainian city killing 20+ people (on top of all ‘the usual’/nightly bomb attacks). This week in Sumy, last week in Kryvyi Rih. And the week before that…
I am aware that some will consider this ‘ranting’. If so, you are welcome to stop reading right here. For the rest, let me explain in simple words what the Russian dictator did this morning. And why the U.S. President shares the blame:
This Sunday is an important religious holiday in Ukraine, and many Ukrainians are on their way to church. Vladimir Putin chose exactly this time to bomb the city center of Sumy, in North-Eastern Ukraine. In this video, you can see the streets strewn with bodies and injured people. No military targets in sight, the people lying on the streets are clearly not military, simply people out and about on an Easter Sunday morning, some to church, some to see family, some just for a stroll with their family. The Russians even hit a city bus full of people.
WARNING: This video is horrific. But this is what Russia is doing to Ukraine. Again and again.
Last Friday, April 4, Russian missiles killed 20 people in Kryvyi Rih, nine of them children in a local playground. Putin’s bomb was a clear, personal, brutal message to the Ukrainian President whose hometown this is. Hell, he even used cluster munitions - obviously in the hope of hurting as many people as possible. He succeeded: 20 people died, 75 were wounded. This is what we are allowing: a KGB thug killing innocent people in Ukraine - ‘just to send a message’ - like in a bad mafia film.
I can only repeat what I wrote then (sorry):
Obviously, the main culprit is Vladimir Putin. But the bizarre chest-beating and macho rhetoric of the U.S. president and his personal attacks on the Ukrainian President has, without a shadow of a doubt, emboldened the mass murderer in the Kremlin.
If the U.S. President doesn't come out immediately and condemn this blatant and cynical mass murder, he will be emboldening and empowering the Russian dictator, encouraging him to kill more innocent Ukrainians.
Over to you, Donald. The words you want to use are “stop”, “despicable” and “fcuking mass murderer”.
After that attack, a Ukrainian friend of mine, Yana, wrote to me:
After that attack, one week ago, the U.S. Ambassador to Ukraine, Bridget Brink, was forced to publish only the blandest of reactions - without one word mentioning the culprit Russia. The Ukrainian President Zelensky who has, for obvious reasons, tried to control his reactions to the Trump-Putin love-in, could no longer stay quiet:
This was followed by last week’s tête-à-tête between Trump’s so-called envoy Steve Witkoff who politically and almost physically bowed to the Russian dictator and his demands on Ukraine when they met in St Petersburg, Russia. The seasoned Russian expert Julia Davis described it thus (my red lines).
If you are looking for more signs that the U.S. President is desperately trying to normalize relations with Russia - and doing this by pretending that Russia is a normal country and that Putin is a normal ruler and that his war in Ukraine is something normal, you can add the fact that while Trump slabbed a 10% tariff on Ukraine, he exempted Russia (and its close allies Belarus and North Korea). Need I say more?
This Sunday morning, after the bombing in Sumy, and 34 more innocent Ukrainians killed in cold blood, more than 100 wounded, my friend Yana again messaged me:
Dear Yana, I am sorry, I am ashamed. Although not Russian, nor American, I also feel ashamed that my Danish Prime Minister does not state unequivocally that this is unacceptable - and - AND - that playing down these horrendous attacks as the U.S. President has done again and again is morally bankrupt.
I am waiting for you, Mette Frederiksen, and you Macron, you Starmer, you Merz.
I will leave you with this thought: Can you imagine that Joe Biden – upon hearing that Russia is dropping cluster bombs on towns and playgrounds in Ukraine - would just shrug his shoulders and say: ‘Putin is only doing what anybody else would do….” ?
Demonstrably, Putin has absolutely zero interest in peace. This has been clear for years, but this is just another action amongst many, that confirms what is evident. Another reason, if any were needed, to boycott the USA.
In this hideous moment I am beyond shame and disgust at the con man some in my country elected.
Thank you for bringing these events to our attention. It is so painful to read what Ukraine is enduring.
