The sucking sound you hear is America regressing back to the 1980s as Trump and his cult of miscreants, morons and Dunning Kruger specimens seize the reigns of power in the US. While this presents a speed bump for Ukraine, it offers the EU and like thinking democracies the opportunity to step into the breach and support Ukraine in an even more significant way. America is going to be preoccupied with their newly anointed leader as he contemplates what he will do now that he has caught the proverbial car. The unrest that will unfold in America as Trump’s gang of fascists implement Project 2025, will occupy the attention of Americans for the next four years thus releasing an opportunity for a new world order to emerge where the American β€œlook at us” attitude will no longer occupy centre stage. Slava Ukraini.

Well said! I hope that the trump s***show/clownshow is so chaotic and disruptive to American lives that it not only helps create significant buyer’s remorse but also helps reduce the damage trump does to the rest of the world. Yes, the American Christo-fascists and oligarchs have caught the car. Should be interesting to see what they can actually do with it. And how long will trump last? He was a useful tool of larger interests (not just Christian extremists and oligarchs but also, obviously, Putin). Now, though, he is fading. Will he (and his family) be put out to pasture? Can anyone replace him as cult leader? Interesting times, even when demoralizing.

How could so many people be fooled? I pray European nations step up.

You can’t fight stupid, but you will still have to fight Russia regardless of Trump’s appeasement strategies. There’s only a few months before any switch over, so what now? Rules get relaxed on long range missile use for a final campaign?

No matter the damage Russia will hold out.

The EU has to stand for Ukraine and NATO re-imagine its relationship with the US.

Everyone could suffer here. There has to be a better way?

One possible silver lining: Trump says a lot of things but his followthrough is lacking. He may be merely negligent towards helping Ukraine as opposed to actively hostile.

But I have little hope of even that much.

I'm just sick with worry for the world now, and I don't think I'm catastrophizing. You two already had a discussion on what the situation for Ukraine would be in the event of a trump win, and it wasn't good. Ukraine, western (and a little of eastern) Europe plus the British Commonwealth nations are alone now to uphold democracy.

I’m sorry it turned out this way.
